Tomas Maier Closes

Just weeks after stepping down from his 17-year long run as creative director at Bottega Veneta, an announcement has been made that Tomas Maier’s eponymous line will also cease operation.

In a statement made by parent organisation, Kering Group, Maier will remain the owner of the Tomas Maier trademark before adding that they “would do [their] best, over the next few months, to safeguard employment, in coordination with local unions.”

Expected to be completed by the end of 2019, the termination of the label will see the closure of its two New York stores on Madison Avenue and Bleecker Street, as well as its e-commerce platform. Unfortunately, this means Maier’s resort collection 2018 and men’s SS19 collection have been cancelled, with his next collection not even going into production.

Founded in 1997, the German-born designer’s line became known for its colourful swimwear and exceptional knitwear. Having exited both Bottega Veneta and his namesake line, it is unclear what is set for Maier in the future.
